Heroes do not always wear capes, and they come from different backgrounds. Community heroes are ordinary, everyday people who work hard to make life better for those around them.
They quietly help by volunteering at homeless shelters, tutoring students in need and supporting people around them during difficult times.
A great example of this can be found in the people in our own neighbourhoods who make a massive, positive impact through simple actions.
For example, some residents set up and take care of community libraries outside their flats, filling them with books for everyone. Others build community spirit by organising morning exercise clubs. These small acts of kindness bring people together and turn neighbourhoods into warm, supportive communities.
Unsung hero interview
Instructions
1. Choose one person in your community you want to feature. This could be a volunteer at the animal shelter or a neighbour who cleans up the nearby park.
2. Ask them these five questions:
- What does a typical day look like?
- What is the hardest part of what you do?
- What made you want to start helping others?
- What is one part of what you do that most people in the neighbourhood hardly see?
- What is one simple thing kids my age can do to help you?
3. Ask them if you can take their picture or if they can share a photo of themselves in action doing their community work.
