When we decided to create our podcast, Spike it! Fun facts about Haikyu!!, we had no idea how much fun – and work – it would be.
We were driven by our goal to show how Haikyu!! isn’t just fiction, but a story inspired by real athletes and teams. The moment we discovered the real team’s underdog story, we knew we had to share it with the world.
Of course, the journey wasn’t without challenges.
Research was a big hurdle. Finding reliable sources about Japanese volleyball teams took hours, and we almost gave up until our teacher suggested digging deeper into interviews with coaches and players instead of relying on Wikipedia.
Then came recording the podcast, which required more patience than we expected. We had to redo it three times because one of us couldn’t stop laughing at their own jokes! But we learned how to use editing tools like GarageBand and how to turn messy takes into a polished final product.
Another challenge was balancing our ideas. At first, we had differing opinions: one of us wanted to focus on game tactics, while the other was more interested in the players’ backstories. After some lively discussions, we realised that compromise made our podcast richer.
It was a challenge to finish the podcast with our limited free time, but it taught us all about discipline and managing our time well.
What did we gain from all this? So much more than just a finished podcast.
We learned that Haikyu!!’s core message, “hard work beats natural talent”, isn’t just a theme; it’s real.
Whether you are passionate about anime, sports, or are just looking to try something new, creating a podcast allows you to geek out and grow. It pushes you to find your voice and work as part of a team.
