At Hannah’s regular boba shop, she usually orders the brown sugar milk.
Today, she saw a new drink on the menu: strawberry matcha boba with dalgona. Hannah thought it sounded cool, so she ordered it.
As she drank it, she was teleported to a magic world full of green and pink, just like the matcha boba!
She screamed, “Ahh! Where am I?” and ran to a girl she saw.
The girl looked at her with relief and asked, “You got the new matcha drink?”
“Yeah, how did you know?” Hannah replied, her voice trembling.
“Because the same thing happened to me,” the girl said. “I’m Maya. I’ve been stuck here for three days.”
Hannah’s eyes widened. “Three days? How do we get back?”
Maya pointed to a giant swirling portal in the distance, guarded by tiny, floating creatures that looked like boba pearls. Before Hannah could ask any questions, the creatures zipped over.
“New traveller!” they chimed in unison. “To enter the portal, you must guess our secret ingredient!”
Hannah stared at the world around her. She thought of the drink.
“Is it … honey?” she guessed.
The pearls buzzed. “No!”
Maya shook her head. “I’ve tried everything.”
Hannah closed her eyes, remembering the sweet, creamy taste of the boba.
“It’s the feeling,” Hannah said slowly. “The drink made us feel adventurous. It brought us here because we wanted something new.”
The pearl creatures gasped. “She understands! The secret ingredient is wonder!”
The portal glowed brighter. Maya grabbed Hannah’s hand. They jumped through the portal and landed softly on the sidewalk outside the shop.
“Same time tomorrow?” Maya asked.
Hannah nodded. “Definitely. But maybe I’ll stick to the brown sugar milk!”
