I watched Toy Story 5 on Dragon Boat Festival Day with my friends.
It is a heart-warming film. I expected the movie to be pure entertainment, but it turned out to be hilarious and, at the same time, had some important messages.
The main character, Bonnie, has hardly any friends. In the rapidly changing era of technology, nearly all children in the city own a “Lilypad,” which is comparable to a tablet or smartphone.
Bonnie’s real interest is playing with toys, such as Barbies. When she gets a “Lilypad”, she gets into “the pond”, which is like social media in our lives.
I feel like I understand Bonnie, as I have witnessed my friends slowly get hooked on the internet or addicted to their tablets.
Sadly, some of my friends used to chat with me, but now they only want to talk about the points they have earned in online games.
I am a lucky boy, as I still have friends at school who love real play, such as Rubik’s Cubes, chess and cycling.
Another message of the movie is to be yourself, even when you discover you are different.
Forcing yourself to blend in may make you lose your true colours. Even if you manage to join a group, you won’t be your true self and won’t enjoy your time.
