In Afghanistan, about 12,000 students affected by the war with Pakistan need safe spaces to learn. This was from a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs last month.

More than 94,000 Afghans have been forced to leave their homes due to the war. Thousands of them have settled along the banks of the Kunar River. They live in tents.
Najibullah Hanif is Kunar’s information chief. He said nearby schools were full, but officials were trying to find ways to help.
Mohammad Amin Shakir, 40, was a school principal before fleeing his home to live in a tent.
“Students ... are roaming here in dirt and sand. They are completely deprived of education here,” he said.
