US packaged food makers and stores are making plans to stop using certain ingredients. These include a type of synthetic dye and sweeteners, like corn syrup.
This move is in response to what customers want, as well as the government’s “Make America Healthy Again” plan.
Last April, US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jnr and the US health regulator said they wanted to get rid of some ingredients, such as artificial food colours. They cited concerns about a possible link between these ingredients and health problems. But many scientists say this topic needs more research.
Kennedy has also said people in the US eat too much sugar.
Target is a giant chain of stores in the United States. Last month, it said that it would only sell cereals made without certified synthetic colours. Chocolate maker Hershey plans to remove synthetic dyes from its snacks by the end of 2027.
