Despite the growing acceptance and celebration of diverse beauty in recent years, Chinese women and young girls continue to face the predominant and daunting challenge of conforming to narrow and idealised beauty standards.
Such pressure exerts a significant influence on individuals’ self-perception and societal expectations. This makes it imperative to recognise and challenge these unrealistic beauty ideals. The impact of beauty standards is often overlooked but can be profound and far-reaching.
Too many individuals, including myself, have found themselves captivated by the allure of Chinese beauty ideals, feeling the pressure to conform at any cost.
Unfortunately, this leads to extreme measures such as strict diets, intense exercise routines, and even cosmetic surgery. However, these efforts often prove fruitless, leading to frustration, low self-esteem, and a sense of inadequacy.
