Effy Wan Yuet-ning, 13, Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School: Hong Kong is known for its high humidity and the weather can feel unbearable. I can at least tolerate the excessive heat during the wet season. However, as someone with an intense fear of insects in general, seeing dark beetles immediately triggers a mix of panic and anger in me.
Mira Xue Haoqing, 16, Tak Nga Secondary School: The high humidity level is one of the most annoying parts about the rainy season. As a person who keeps an eye on fashion trends, it’s annoying that my favourite clothes become soaked and need a long time to dry.
Samuel Lo Tin-wan, 11, SKH Tin Wan Chi Nam Primary School: The thing that bothers me the most is that when it rains, there are mosquitoes – and mosquitoes are the worst things alive. So when you walk in the park, you’re going to get bitten by mosquitoes. It is so itchy, so I really don’t like the rainy season.
Karanjot Singh, 16, King’s College: Honestly, I like the rainy season; its overall vibe is quite cosy and dreamy. But its biggest downside? It dramatically slows down drying clothes. Sometimes, I can’t even wear my favourite shirt for days, just because it’s still damp.
Raina Kam Yue-kiu, 13, Stewards Pooi Kei College: The most annoying thing about the rainy season is that it makes everything slippery and scruffy. Not to mention that it is the season that I get sick most – which is not fun. There are also so many bugs I hate that crawl out in this weather.
Chloe Ngai Hong-yu, 12, Po Leung Kuk Camoes Tan Siu Lin Primary School: What annoys me most about the rainy season is that we can’t go outside. For example, my family and I thought about hiking last weekend, but because of the rain, we couldn’t go to the mountains for safety reasons. This really burns me up because I love spending time with my family. I really hope the rainy season ends soon so people can go outside with their friends and family again.
Emma Lo Tsz-wai, 14, Chinese YMCA Secondary School: Whenever it rains in the morning on the way to school, my socks get wet. And sometimes my socks stay wet and soggy for the rest of the day. When that happens, it really disgusts me a lot, especially if I have not brought another pair of socks with me.
Caden Chan, 14, Pui Kiu College: The most annoying thing about the rainy season is when everyone drives super slowly because the roads are slick, or everyone is trying to get a ride instead of walking. A normal 10-minute drive turns into a massive traffic jam, making you late for everything.
Lam Yuen-ching, 17, GCCITKD Lau Pak Lok Secondary School: The rainy season brings nothing but misery. Standing near the road, I was shocked when a speeding car splashed dirty water on me, turning my white dress brown. Not only was it wet, but it was also smelly! I wish I had stayed far away from the traffic.
