Hong Kong doctors have carried out the world's first surgery using a robot to remove cancer from a patient's lungs. It reduced the harm traditional operations could have caused.

The procedure has been used on three patients in the city. The surgery was carried out at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.

"This technology is about accurate navigation using a robotic bronchoscope ... without bleeding," says Professor Calvin Ng from Chinese University.

A bronchoscope is a device used to inspect the inside of a person's lungs.

"Patients have gone back to work the day after they leave the hospital, as they do not have to worry about any wound being infected," he says.
