Competitors plunged into the mud in a German town earlier this month as they played in the 14th German Mud Football Championship.
Mud football was first used as an exercise for athletes and soldiers, who needed the strength to move through a bog. The sport originated in Finland. A match involves two 10-minute halves, and both teams have six players on the pitch.
