Two pupils at Hong Kong and Macau Lutheran Church Ming Tao Primary School share what they learned at last month’s International Culture Day.

My school recently organised a special event about international culture.
First, I went to the hall and listened to a lecture about ancient Chinese martial arts. I realised that many Chinese martial arts were like Wing Chun. It also helped me understand that when I encounter problems, I must protect myself.
Then, we went to the playground to play booth games. Throughout these games, I learned about many different countries. For example, in Finland, there is a game called Molkky, which is similar to bowling.
This event was an eye-opening experience. I learned about many different cultures and all were interesting.

We tried Danish cookies, which are from Denmark. I was crazy about those cookies. There were many types, and each cookie had its own characteristics. They tasted delicious!
We also had maltose cakes, which originated in China. They are easy to make. First, put the maltose in a pot and heat it. Then, draw your favourite pattern with maltose. Next, place a long bamboo skewer on top of the cake. Finally, cool it at room temperature for five minutes. Now, it’s ready to eat. It tastes sweet! I like it!
On this day, I learned that we should respect every country’s culture.
