A land animal is any animal that lives on the ground, like elephants, lions and rabbits. Even humans are considered land animals.

However, many land animals are currently at risk due to many different human-made issues. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 48,000 species are currently at risk of going extinct.

Materials

  • white paper plate

  • pink paint

  • black and white paper

  • pink paper

  • scissors

  • glue

  • black pen or marker

Instructions

  1. Paint the front of your plate pink. This will be your pig’s face.

  2. If you don’t have googly eyes, you can cut two small circles out of black paper to serve as the pupils for your pig’s eyes. Next, cut two slightly larger circles from white paper to complete the eyes.

  3. Then cut two triangles out of the pink paper for the ears and a larger oval for the nose.

  4. Now it’s time to glue everything on! Start by sticking the white parts of the eyes onto the upper half of the plate. Next, place the black parts on top of the white circles to complete the eyes. You should now see two eyes. Attach the oval nose below the eyes and draw two black dots in the centre to create the nostrils. Finally, glue the two ears to the top edges of the plate, making sure the pointy parts face upwards – one on the top left and one on the top right.

Save the endangered animals

  1. Many animals are endangered, meaning there are few left, and they might disappear if we don’t help them. Look up endangered land animals using the internet. Choose one and find out more about it. Where does it live? What is putting this animal in danger?

  2. Once you know the problem, think of ways to help. Search online for ideas on how to protect this animal. You can share what you find with your friends or donate to a charity.

  3. Make a poster about your animal to teach others why we need to protect it. Be creative! Remember to add drawings or photos.
