Lucas Chui (aged 10), German Swiss International School

The amount of plastic we produce in Hong Kong is unacceptable, and we don’t recycle most of it. Most people just leave their plastics to degrade, which can take more than 500 years. Even then, the plastic won’t fully disintegrate; it only gets smaller and smaller.

Each year, around 14 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean. Our ocean had 75 to 200 million tonnes of plastic waste as of 2023. Who knows if 2024 will be worse? We must act now and reduce the amount of plastic we use.

Li Muxi (aged 8), St Rose of Lima’s School

My school life is great! I like many subjects, including Chinese, maths and music.

General Studies is fascinating, and I have a funny teacher. Once, during recess, I asked my teacher, “Why is sleep so important for a person’s health?” She pointed at a classmate and said, “See, this is why sleep is so important.” I looked where my teacher was pointing, and it was at a classmate who was sleeping on her desk!

I enjoy English the most, and I usually do well on tests. My English teacher always wears a smile on her face, even if a student fails.

Hayden Liu Hei-kiu (aged 11), Piu Kiu College

In the Rugby English Active Learning Programme, I learned that rugby is a game about teamwork. Without it, there would be nobody to pass the ball to, and it would be hard to dodge your opponent. Also, it is about discipline. It makes the team more organised.

This programme is about learning how to play rugby and communicating in English. It has helped me improve my skills! My favourite activity was playing freeze tag with a rugby ball. It was so fun!
