I want to recommend The Emoji Movie. It is about a “meh” emoji named Gene who believes he is a malfunction because his supervisor, Smiler, calls him one.
Gene is a multi-expression emoji. He lives in a virtual city called Textopolis, which exists on a smartphone owned by a human named Alex. The film follows Gene as he embarks on a journey to become a normal emoji capable of only a single expression – meh.
Along for the ride are his friends Hi-5, who is not very popular with Alex, and Jailbreak, a secret princess. Their goal is to get uploaded to the cloud without getting caught. To do this, they need to exit the Textopolis app, go through a series of adventures and get uploaded to the cloud.
Gene shows me that no dream is too big and that we can be whatever we want to be. The film encourages us to retain our innocence, and I really enjoyed watching it.
