The Democratic Republic of Congo is the second-largest country in Africa. It is facing an outbreak of the Ebola virus. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is working in the area. To avoid misinformation from spreading, volunteers are going door-to-door.
The Ebola strain spreading is called the Bundibugyo strain. It has no approved vaccine or treatment. The outbreak was declared an emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization.
The IFRC’s volunteers explain how people can protect themselves and seek care.
