It must be frustrating that your little sister needs help with everything! However, one good thing is that this shows that she trusts you.

Have a kind and honest conversation with your sister. Tell her that you love and want to help her but feel overwhelmed by her constant demands for help. Encourage her to do more things by herself and offer to teach her if needed.

Make sure to set boundaries with your sister, too. Tell her how long you are available to help her learn to do a certain task. Be clear about when you are free to help and when you need to focus on your own things.

You will have to work slowly to help your sister become more independent. Start with a few tasks at a time. Be firm, patient, and encouraging, and don’t give up.

You can also ask for a family meeting and tell everyone how you feel. Clear communication is key to a happier home.

Talk it out

  • Do you have siblings? What tasks do you help them with, and how can they learn to do them independently?

  • How can you offer encouragement and support as your siblings learn new skills?
