Are you getting enough exercise? Kids need to be active. The Department of Health recommends at least 60 minutes of exercise every day. This helps you stay healthy, boosts your brain, and strengthens your muscles and bones.
Here are three easy activities you can do to stay active:
1. Try a fun indoor workout. A 15-minute routine, including warming up and stretching, can help you run faster, jump higher and dance better. Doing the exercises with an adult for the first time is important, and stop if you feel tired. Here are some great indoor exercises you can try:
Jumping jacks: Start in a standing position. Jump, spread your feet apart and move your hands above your head. Then, jump again to bring your feet together and move your hands down to your sides. Repeat this 15 times.
Wall sit: Find an empty wall. Lean against it with your back straight, and pretend you are sitting on a chair. Hold this position for 30 seconds.
Arm circles: Spread your arms out from your sides. Start by moving them in 10 small circles. Then, move them in 10 medium circles. Finish by moving them in 10 big circles.
2. Race walking is a great way to stay fit without wasting too much time. You can do it while walking to school! This exercise strengthens your heart. Start with a five-minute walking session, and slowly increase your speed and time.
3. Challenge yourself to take the stairs instead of the lift. See if you can beat the lift over short distances. Start with an easy distance by walking up one or two flights of stairs and then taking the lift the rest of the way to your destination.
