Exercise has many benefits for mental and physical health.

When we run, swim, bike or play sports, the heart beats faster and becomes stronger. The body receives more oxygen, and the skin gets more nutrients. All of these benefits help us look and feel healthier.

When we are active, our bodies get better at fighting off sickness. This is because exercise speeds up the movement of our white blood cells, which destroy germs.

Physical activity can also make us happy by releasing chemicals in the brain that can put us in a good mood. Exercise also helps us sleep better, which benefits our emotions, too. After running around or playing sports, our body temperature goes up and it takes 30 to 90 minutes to cool down. As our body temperature goes down, we become more sleepy.

Being active is a great way to make friends. Sports teams and clubs are great places to meet new people.

Exercise helps us feel better inside and out. Doctors recommend at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day.
