What do you do when you’re feeling overwhelmed? Photo: Shutterstock

Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)

Things might feel tough right now. It seems like a lot of hard things are happening all at once. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, your brain is all filled up, and there’s no more space to think. Here are a few tips to help you make more space in your brain:

  1. Exercise regularly.

  2. Do things that you enjoy.

  3. Take some time for yourself to relax and recharge and do things that are not related to your studies.

  4. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.

  5. Talk to someone you trust about your feelings.

These tips can help you clear up space in your brain and make it easier to handle things that seem too hard. If you’re really struggling with your schoolwork, you can talk to your parents about getting a tutor to help you find a better way to learn.

Talk it out

  • Are there any specific things that happen at school that make you feel stressed or overwhelmed?

  • What do you do when you have a tough time handling schoolwork?

This question was answered by clinical psychologist Ken Fung, director of therapy and counselling at Jadis Blurton Family Development Centre in Hong Kong and founder of Your Relationship Clinic.
