Earthquakes
Underneath our feet, the Earth is not still. Hard shields of rock called plates float on fiery hot molten rock called magma. These plates pull apart or push against each other, building energy until suddenly something gives way. The sudden release of energy causes an earthquake. Some are barely noticeable. Others are cataclysmic.
