Difficulty: Challenger (Level 2)

Did you know that your body and your mind depend on each other? They communicate with each other throughout the day, even while you are sleeping.

When you actively take care of your body, your mind becomes sharper and more resilient. When your mind feels calm and strong, your body feels better as well. Let’s dive into some amazing facts about how these two systems cooperate.

Moving for 10 minutes can improve your mood

When you run, jump or play, your body releases special chemicals called endorphins. These are tiny messengers that travel to your brain and make you feel happy and less stressed. That explains why you feel so good after playing outside, kicking a ball around or even just taking a quick stroll.

Your brain needs water like a plant needs rain

Did you know that your brain is made of about 75 per cent water? When you get thirsty, your brain processes information more slowly, which can make you more forgetful or irritable. That is why drinking water helps you think clearly and stay calm.

Sleep is when your brain cleans itself

While you sleep, your brain washes away small bits of waste that build up during your waking hours. This essential restoration period is key if you want to wake up feeling refreshed and prepared to learn and solve problems.

Without adequate rest, your cognitive abilities feel foggy, like a cloudy window.

So how can you help your body and mind work together?

It is simple: maintain consistent healthy habits.

  • Move your body daily by running, dancing, stretching or playing.

  • Eat colourful fruits and vegetables that feed your brain, and drink plenty of water.

  • Get sufficient sleep so your brain can take out its “trash”.

  • And when you feel worried or sad, slowly take deep breaths and tell your body to relax – soon, your mind will follow.

Remember that maintaining a strong mind is impossible without a healthy body, and you cannot have a well-functioning body without a peaceful mind. So take care of both. By prioritising regular exercise, restorative rest, proper nutrition and kindness to yourself, your body and mind will thank you by helping you learn, laugh and shine every day.
